DESCRIPTION Barnegat Lighthouse Barnegat City, NJ 1920 The first lighthouse was completed in 1835. Poorly constructed, a storm surge toppled the tower in 1856. Construction began one year later, 900-yards south of the old tower. The present 172-foot tower was relighted in 1859.
